Dear Corker,

I am curious about Tradition 7. What does it mean for a group to be self-supporting? -- Just Curious

Dear Curious,

I have gone to the 7th Tradition in the Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions book. For AA groups to exist and function we had to have meeting places; for the newcomer literature had to be available; coffee certainly was made available. Who would be responsible for these expenses. It would be the group’s responsibility to collect enough money from its members to be able to afford these things. They could not accept funds from outside that group’s membership.

I suggest reading the pamphlet “Self-Support: Where Money And Spirituality Mix”.
